background / biography

Suffersurge was initially formed in October 1999 in Regina, SK by Steve Clarke (vocals), Todd Barlow (bass), Chad Miller (drums) and Devon Hill (guitar).  The original four members came together with the common goal of creating a hard rock/metal sound spawning from each of their biggest musical influences.

In 2000, The band started playing local shows at various venues in Regina, SK which included opening for Regina progressive death metal giants and Century Media Recording artists, Into Eternity.  In addition to playing live shows, the band recorded a 4-song EP with John Bidochka at Rental Studios in Regina, SK.  Not many copies were produced and it saw minimal airplay on Regina's local community radio station, CJTR 93.1.

In the spring of 2002, Devon Hill announced that he would be leaving Suffersurge to concentrate on other priorities.  In an effort to move on, the band recruited a new guitarist and kept commitments to play various scheduled shows.  Over the course of the next year, Suffersurge would see a revolving door of members occupying the guitar slot.  The original vibe of the band was never recaptured and the band decided to part ways in the spring of 2003.

In November 2007, three of the original members (Steve Clarke, Todd Barlow, Chad Miller) decided that the time was right to bring the band back to life.  One common goal between these three was that the right guitarist would have to be recruited before the band would carry on as it was important that the original vision of the band was achieved as originally intended back in 1999.  Jon McCaulder answered an ad placed by the band on Saskmetal.com and it was apparent upon the first meeting that he was the right person to help rekindle the original Suffersurge vibe.  Jon's playing style draws influence from Black Label Society to King Diamond which will help him add his own spin on the classic Suffersurge songs as well as shape the band's sound as new works of art are created.

Suffersurge will record a 5-song EP in the summer of 2008 and carry on where the original band left off.

Stay tuned...more to come...!!
