The Incident officially formed as a band in January of 2008, with the purpose of playing for Rock 4 Telemiracle, a benefit show with an obvious beneficiary.  Unofficially, the members had been playing together for years, and had done several acoustic shows, with Shayne Hawken being the centerpiece.

Shayne parted ways with Stillseed in 2003, and went on in a solo direction.  No longer bound by having to meld conflicting ideas, he was able to open up an unrestricted vent of writing.  This produced a great number of brilliant acoustic rock songs and presented a stage for his vocal abilities to shine.  Over the few years the other 3 members would back him up for various acoustic shows and jam infrequently.

In 2007, talk began about actually forming a band as a fun project to jam and write more music.  The 4 members have a long history of playing music together and always had a strong vibe.  After a couple of jams in Jan/08, the band finally (and gruellingly as always) came up with a name and made it official.  The gameplan is and always will be predicated on having fun and making good music, and will build on what Shayne has started himself.
